Frequently asked questionsQ: How does the FirstRand Group recruit staff?A: When a position becomes vacant, we will initiate the recruitment process by inviting our existing employees to apply through our Careers Intranet web site. We will usually also look for suitable candidates in our applicant database that meet the requirements of the available positions. If we are unable to find a suitable candidate we will publish the vacancy on our career site to external candidates and/or employment agencies. The number of vacant positions is constantly changing, based on a number of factors such as the availability of financial resources, attrition and operational requirements.
Q: How do I submit my application on-line?A: The FirstRand Group uses electronic-based recruiting technology as a method to manage the recruitment processes. To be included in our searchable applicant database, you must register on-line and apply for a specific position. You must also ensure that the tick box “Allowing your Account to be searched” is selected. Please do not send us your CV by email or fax. We will also create a personal space for you on the site where you can update your personal information and monitor progress with your application.
Q: I have registered on the site, but have forgotten my password. How do I reset my password?A: Click on the ‘Forgot your password’ link. Enter the e-mail address that you used to register. A new password will be e-mailed to that address.
Q: How do I update my personal information?A: When you register on our site, we will create a “My Account” for you on our system. It is to your advantage to let us know when you acquire new experience, education and certification or even when your contact information has changed. By regularly updating your personal details, you are ensuring that FirstRand recruiters have access to updated information at all times.
Q: What happens to my personal information once I have registered?A: While your personal profile is active on the system, and you have allowed for “My Account” to be searched, you will be considered for new positions that match your profile. If you have set a Search Agent, you will be informed of new positions that match your criteria. You may apply for these positions if you wish. You may also apply for any new jobs that are advertised on the Careers website. That way the system will recall your information so that you will not have to re-type your profile. You could however update any information that has changed since your previous log-in. Please note that the FirstRand Group has no obligation to consider you for a position unless you have forwarded an application for that specific vacancy. When recruiters search the inventory for candidates, they may include a number of criteria in their search, based on the needs for that specific position. For example, recruiters will select the experience and education requirements for their position. They may also limit the area of selection to a region, and limit their search to candidates who have demonstrated interest in that work location.
Q: Why do I have to register?A: The registration is a process when you create your account, indicate your personal preferences and record all your personal details. You only have to register once, ensuring that when you apply for any future vacancies, the system will recall your information, saving you time.
Q: I am only interested in applying for one specific position. Do I still have to register?A: Yes, you do have to register prior to being able to apply for a vacancy. You do however have the option to indicate on your account that you do not want your details to be included in searches for suitable candidates for any other vacancies.
Q: How do I search for a suitable vacancy?A: You can conduct a search from the log-in page by completing certain search criteria and then selecting the search button. All available jobs that match the searching criteria will be displayed in a table, indicating the advertisement expiry date. You may click on the job title to see the detailed description.
Q: How do I apply for a vacancy?A: If you see a vacancy that you are interested in, you must be registered to apply for the vacancy. If you have not yet registered, simply follow the instructions displayed on the screen. The application process has been structured in such a way that the entire application process should not take more than a few minutes of your time. You may sometimes also be asked to complete an on-line assessment/questionnaire specific to the vacancy.
Q: I have applied for a vacancy. When will I receive feedback?A: The communication processes are automated, which means that there is no need to contact our recruiters to check on the status of your application. Once you have applied for a vacancy, our recruitment system will create “Jobs applied for” space on our career website which you may access at any time to check progress with your application.
Q: What happens if my application is unsuccessful?A: We will evaluate all applications fairly and retain all CVs of unsuccessful applicants on a central database for future reference. You can track the status of your application/s on the ‘Jobs applied for’ link from the Log-in screen.
Q: What employment checks does the FirstRand Group perform?A: All our offers for employment are made subject to satisfactory references (including ITC, qualification and criminal checks) and a clearance from the South African Banking Reds Index. Certain positions could require various other assessments and additional checks to be performed, e.g. Driver’s License.
Q: Will I be reimbursed for travel and relocation expenses?A: Relocation expenses are not normally reimbursed to a person on initial appointment to the bank, Please be aware that if you select work locations that require you to travel (during the selection process) or relocate (if a job offer is made), the onus may be on you to bear the costs of any travel and/or relocation.
